"The Dreamers of Dreams" takes the listener through various stages of sleep using a variety of source materials. Selections are drawn from Mad World by Tears for Fears, Somewhere Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, and Lux Aeterna from Requiem for a Dream. This particular arrangement was for a school with 20 winds and 8 percussionists, some of whom switch from front ensemble to drumline halfway through the show.
Grade 3-4
featured soloists:
flute, clarinet, saxophone quartet
All of your favorite Carmen tunes are in this action-packed show! An opening hit introduces the show, followed by an exciting opener that develops the Habanera theme. After an optional yet sweet flute/clarinet duet based on the Toreador's Song, the ensemble really unwinds with a Latin-feature movement. After this, the Toreador's Song is used in minor mode to reflect the darkness of Carmen's story. The closing movement brings back all musical material in a satisfying conclusion. This version ends in minor, but can be adjusted to end happier if needed! This show was originally performed by the Putnam City West High School Marching Band.
I. Paint It Black by Rolling Stones
II. Rite of Spring by Stravinsky
III. Symphony 10 by Shostakovich
The struggle between light and dark is front and center in this show named after Dylan Thomas' famous poem. Paint It Black is the backbone to this show, but the Dies Irae is never far way. The middle production mashes up a section of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring with the Rolling Stones, and the second movement from Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony rounds the show out.
Disney villains take front and center in this dark and energetic show. Poor Unfortunate Souls serves as the opening production, followed by a gritty and jazzy Cruella DeVil. Poor Unfortunate Souls returns in a prettier form, followed by a percussion feature leading into Be Prepared.
I. Poor Unfortunate Souls, by Alan Menken
II. Cruella DeVil, by Mel Leven
III. Be Prepared, by Elton John and Tim Rice
I. Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson
II. Rule, Britannia (percussion feature)
III. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
IV. Royals by Lorde
Inspired by musical "royalty", this pop-inspired show has it all: a driving and jubilant percussion feature, tender moments from wind soloists, a brass chorale, and even the guitar solo from Bohemian Rhapsody performed by the whole woodwind section! This Grade 3 wind and percussion book is sure to help your band compete, all while exciting your home crowd each week!
